Campaigns
Whilst primarily catering for the social needs of our members, we also have an important representative role. This doesn’t mean we’re going to make you go on a rainbow flag-waving march on campus, but hopefully we can provide some interesting events and campaigns to promote discussion about issues that affect LGBT people. We aim to work closely with the Equal Opportunities Committee, the Environmental and Social Justice Committee and the SEEN Network within the Students’ Union. We are supported nationally by the NUS LGBT Campaign and attend their national conference twice a year. If you have any questions or want to get involved please contact our Campaigns Team, on the 'About Us' page . We are always interested to work with others, whatever their sexual orientation or gender.
National Blood Service
We plan to hold a demonstration on Friday 13th November as part of the NUS LGBT's 'Donation not Discrimination' campaign. This is due to the National Blood Service banning all men who have had sex with men / female partners of men who have sex with men from giving blood. We will have a stall in Portland with information and a petition to sign.
Did You Know? Campaign
The campaigns team have organised a 'Did You Know?' campaign, which aims to raise awareness of LGBT issues through poster campaigns. We aim to make students more aware of issues that affect LGBT students and the LGBT population as a whole.
